City of Dreams
Matúš Chovanec and Adam Šoltés are two young filmmakers from eastern Slovakia. For Radio Slovakia International, they shared their insights about shooting their upcoming feature, City of Dreams, in one of the largest Romani settlements in Slovakia. Although both Matúš and Adam come from the majority Slovak society, they have chosen to present a more positive perspective on the Romani minority, particularly in eastern Slovakia. Their film focuses on the Trebišov Romani settlement – a place governed by its own rules, shaped by generations of poverty, crime, and survival. Yet even here, against the odds, there are people fighting for change – and the two filmmakers have chosen to follow their journey through the lens of their cameras.
