Star Irish playwright Marina Carr in Bratislava

On Tuesday, May 13, the New Drama festival welcomed its patron for this year, Irish playwright Marina Carr. In a public talk in Bratislava, Carr spoke about her interest in ancient Greek drama and her focus on human behaviour in her writing.

The festival also marked the launch of the first Slovak-language collection of Carr’s plays. Published by the Slovak Theatre Institute, the book includes Portia Coughlan, The Map of Argentina, and Audrey of Sorrow, translated by Zuzana Vajdičková, Ivan Lacko, and Tomáš Eštok.

Martina Greňová Šimkovičová spoke with Carr about her views on seeing her work performed in translation.
