Remembering Dežo Ursíny, 30 years after his passing

Dežo Ursíny, the legend and pioneer of Slovak big beat and pop music, passed away 30 years ago on May 2, 2025. Many remember him as an icon – a visionary who combined music, poetry, and film to explore the deepest corners of the human experience. But who was he beyond the myth? In this show, RSI’s Patrícia Polakovičová takes a closer look at Ursíny’s path through art and life – from his early days with The Beatmen and The Soulmen, to his collaboration with poet Ivan Štrpka, and finally, his introspective films with producer Marián Urban.

You will also hear from his son, Jakub Ursíny, who continues to carry his father’s legacy forward, and from music journalist Marián Jaslovský, who helps us put Dežo’s work into historical context. Last but not least, film producer Marián Urban also shares his thoughts about the creative bond he had with Dežo. Through recordings, personal memories, and reflections, we’ll uncover how Ursíny’s voice still echoes today – quiet, powerful, and timeless.
