The Culture Ministry has cancelled the selection process for the Slovak National Theatre (SND) general director, following a decision by Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová. The ministry stated it will proceed according to the law in filling the position, but did not provide further details. The SND's management continues as normal. The selection procedure was announced on February 5, with a February 15 application deadline, and was scheduled to take place in late March. Zuzana Ťapáková has been serving as the temporary general director since August 2024.
The conditions and the deadline for submitting applications were criticised by some SND employees. They pointed out that the ten-day deadline did not give the applicants enough time to prepare a serious concept of SND's management and development, which was one of the conditions for the applicants to be able to apply for the selection procedure.
