Iconic actor Stefan Kvietik dies at 90

Movie, theatre and voice actor Stefan Kvietik passed away on Friday (March 21) at the age of 90. The icon often called the Anthony Quinn of Slovak cinematography, was one of the most cast actors in Slovak cinematography of 1960’s – 1970’s – and early 1980’s era. The first movie Kvietik appeared in was 'Smrt sa Vola Engelchen' (Engelchen is the Name of Death), a WW2 movie released in 1960. The actor starred in an iconic role in Peter Solan's movie 'Boxer a Smrt' (Boxer and Death) which won the special Carl Foreman Award at the 1963 San Francisco International Film Festival.

In 1989, Kvietik became an MP for Slovak National Party in 1990-94 as well as the vice-chair of Parliamentary committee for education, science, culture and sports. Decorated with many awards, he became the fourth Slovak actor with his own Walk of Fame granite tile in front of P.O. Hviezdoslav Theatre in Bratislava.
