The Concert for Ukraine that was held in Bratislava on Sunday has been organised by the Pohoda festival and the Bratislava Cultural and Information Centre every year since the beginning of the total war in 2022. The aim of the event is to express solidarity with our eastern neighbours together with the public.
Originally it was to be opened by a performance of the Lúčnica choir, but that did not happen. Michal Kaščák from the Pohoda team explained that they received information that the group was pressured by the Ministry of Culture to cancel its participation. “This is another step by which the Ministry of Culture, instead of creating good conditions for culture, boycotts its natural functioning and bullies its own top organisations," stated Kaščák.
The concert was opened by the band Para, followed by Slobodná Evropa, Peter Lipa, Contradiction, David Koller and Daniel Špiner with Katka Koščová. It was symbolically closed by the Ukrainian singer Mila Medvedovska.
In addition to the musicians, this year's Concert for Ukraine also featured other guests, such as director Dorota Vlnová and artist Andrea Kalinová, who were part of the women's team that brought an ambulance directly to the front in December 2024.
