The 8th international literary festival Novotvar started on Wednesday, 4 October, in Bratislava. Through Saturday, 7 October, authors from Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland and Slovakia among others will follow the ambition of the event to “actively expand public interest in Slovak as well as foreign contemporary literature, to promote new, progressive and artistically valuable literary works, to introduce them to the widest possible public, and in this way to promote them“.
First ever Czech theatre contribution award goes to Slovak actress
On 30 September, the 30th Thalia Awards for top achievements in theatre in the neighbouring Czech Republic took place at the National Theatre in Prague. For the first time in history, a foreign actress, Slovak-born Emília Vášáryová, received one of the honorary awards for her contribution to theatre.
Slovak CD best in Poland
Another triumph of Slovak artists abroad was recorded by Ivica Gabrisova and Maros Klatik. Their CD “Flute sonatas of the 20th century” was granted the Grand Prix in the foreign album category of the internatioanally-recognized competition "Muzyczne Orły" organised annually in the Polish city of Lodz.
