Annually, Slovaks recall the suffering of the Virgin Mary on 15 September. Revealing the story of Maria Prechovska, one of the most significant Slovak actresses, unearths sorrows of her own. Her career stretched from the 1940s through to her death in the mid 1990s. True democrat Prechovska was unique in the context of Slovak theatre as she was the first ever Slovak professional actress who did not gain education in an amateur drama ensemble or at a local school but left to study in Vienna.
