New Jurkovic in Zvolen
 
The iconic Slovak architect Dusan Jurkovic will be presented as of 25th August in a new display at Zvolen castle, the Slovak National Gallery’s venue in this central Slovak town. An in-situ showroom will provide a collection of furniture designed by Jurkovic for his own bedroom and office. Also on display will be items of his ceramics, textile projects, photographs as well as sketches. Modernist architect and designer Dusan Jurkovic is a top representative of the so called national style influenced by traditional folk architecture.
 
“Like a dream” in Moravany
 
Artrooms Moravany is the title of the presentation of contemporary art with dreaming as its main topic. Almost 60 artists from Slovakia as well as the Czech Republic, Finland and Ukraine can be seen in chateau Moravany located closely to the renowned spa town of Piestany. The exhibition is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 17th September.
 
World Music Festival Bratislava
 
As of today, 17th August, the international World Music Festival Bratislava starts in the Slovak capital. Creole music, ethno-jazz, Occitan vocal tradition as well as traditional instruments can be seen and heard in 4 days. Presenting their art will be bands from Belgium, Burkina Faso, Estonia, France, Greece, Italy, South Korea, Tunisia, USA and, of course, Slovakia. One its founders, Jarmila Vlckova, shares her tips for concerts: „For me, the highlights of the festival will be the Fanfara Station, Efrén López and Christos Barbas, Soona Park, Ti’kaniki, Barrut and, in fact, all of the artists on the line-up.“ A part of the festival will be an international conference of experts in world music and  workshops for both, professionals and general public.
