€111 million for culture during pandemic

A total of €111 million has been allocated for culture and creative industries since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in the form of various support schemes, Premier Eduard Heger and Culture Minister Natalia Milanova (both OLaNO) informed on Monday.
Heger characterised the aid as unprecedented help for culture and confirmation of his Cabinet's interest in this area. At the same time he admitted that no amount of money can compensate for what could have been done in culture if it had remained open. He stressed that a higher vaccination rate and respect for necessary measures will enable restrictions to be eased in favour of culture again. The culture minister said that an amount of almost €15.7 million was allocated to 433 entities under the recent subsidy scheme, designed for so-called single-person liability-limited companies engaged in the area of culture. The ministry launched the latest subsidy scheme aimed at single-person companies in late September. In addition to single-person companies, micro-companies with a maximum of nine employees and an annual turnover of up to €2 million were eligible to apply for a subsidy under the scheme, along with small companies employing a maximum of 49 people and with an annual turnover of up to €10 million. The condition was a drop in sales of at least 30 percent last year as compared to 2019.
