Slovak author Ivana Dobrakovova is among the fourteen winners of the 2019 European Union Prize for Literature. She was nominated for her book Mothers and lorry drivers depicting stories of 3 Slovak and 2 Italian women. The award granted by the European Commission is awarded annually to new and starting authors across Europe so to highlight the richness of its contemporary literature as well as the cultural and language heritage of the old continent. National jury boards consisting of publishers, booksellers, authors and critics pick the winner in each of the countries participating in the Creative Europe programme. The winners will be handed over the prize in a ceremony on 2nd October.
