“Ode to Joy?” asks Nitra

The festival of drama entitled Divadelna Nitra starts in western Slovak town of Nitra, Friday, September 23. The 25^th annual edition of this international event entitled Ode to Joy? will try to find an answer to the question of how much joy Europe offers to its citizens and to the world. The top Slovak and European ensembles will present 16 plays discussing topics such as the East meeting West, loneliness, historical legacy, conscience and searching for home. Audiences can see the performance of former Iraqi dancers currently living in Sweden or the staging Suddenly the night by the French Compagnie Du Zieu, awarded at the festival in Avignon, which deals with the topic of migration. The Slovak contributions will present the themes of extremism and the times of communist dictatorship.
