Museum and Gallery of 2015

The Culture ministry has handed over the 2015 top museum and gallery of the year awards. The past year's winning museum is the Central Slovak Museum in Banska Bystrica and the title of the Gallery of the year went to the Orava gallery in Dolny Kubin. The Central Slovak Museum in Banská Bystrica has impressed the expert jury- mainly through its long term project of restoring a complex collection of nobility mortuaria, which are relics of burials and places where people used to be buried. The Oravska gallery in Dolný Kubín is focused on documenting the Orava region in the northern Slovak border with Poland. It was awarded not only for its large collection of artworks and of naïve art but also for restoring a late baroque altar picture of the Crucifixion. The Andrej Kmeť award for the scientific thesis that helped the professional growth of the Slovak museology, galleries, ethnology and folkloristics was handed over to art theorist Iva Mojžišová and ethnographer Ján Weiss in memoriam.
