To read about sex or not?

The book Sekerou a nožom or By an axe and a knife when translated in English has caused controversy in secondary schools. The collection of short stories written by Peter Pišťanek and Dušan Taragel is viewed by representatives of Catholic Church schools as too vulgar and sexually expressive to be enlisted in the compulsory literature. The State pedagogical institute, which is in charge of the list, advocates its decision by claiming that this book is one of the more 'breakthrough' pieces of literature from the period shortly after the fall of the communist regime in 1989. The institute states that the vulgar expressions are relevant and that 18 year olds should be able to comprehend the text. An Education ministry expert commission has already decided that graduates will have to read only several short stories from the Sekerou a nožom collection.
