LEDs are now used in TVs, cameras, mobile phones, aeroplanes, fibre optics, and even medicine, but it wasn't until the early 1990s that a scientific breakthrough allowed this to happen. The researchers involved won Nobel Prizes for the discovery, with one of them, Professor Hiroshi Amano, arriving to Bratislava last week. We talk about the discovery and what the future holds.
