As today is the 50th anniversary of the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia, today’s broadcast takes a look at this event from new perspectives, starting with today’s release of a new documentary, created by Slovak film maker Peter Kerekes, in which soldiers who arrived in tanks on that fateful day are taken back in time to recreate the event.
Following that, in contrast to the often-heard viewpoint of people waking up to convoys of tanks in Prague and Bratislava, you’ll hear the perspectives of people living in typical a quiet Slovak village as the invasion arrived on their doorsteps.
And lastly in today's show comes a summary of the event and closing words from historian Dr Miroslav Londák from the Historical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
